Just call me "Hero"
So… If you’ve followed the blog much, you know we’ve got half a dozen cats (yup, 6…) living in & around our backyard. Well, 2 of them just had litters of kittens. We haven’t found one litter, but that momma cat isn’t around as much, so we’re assuming she had them a few houses down or something. The other cat (the momma of the other 5) had her litter of 3 kittens right outside Taven’s window AC unit next to the house.
So… You remember the other night is rained “cats & dogs” in the metroplex? Yeah, when I laid Taven down, I could hear those poor kittens crying outside in the COLD, WET, RAIN… (Well, of course it was wet, but it also happened to be cold too…)
Anyhow, I went out in the rain to check on them & I couldn’t find momma anywhere. So I decided to see if there was some sort of shelter I could put over them, but all I could find was Taven’s little “PlaySkool” plastic table & it didn’t do much for the SOAKED leaves & ground they were laying on. So I did what any self-respecting animal lover would do. I picked them up in my shirt and brought them in the house & used Melisa’s haird dryer to fluff them up.
They are only about 3 weeks old right now, so they aren’t extremely mobile quite yet. They can crawl around, but not very fast. They also don’t quite have both eyes open yet either. Anyhow, we dried them off, put them in a box with a towel & put that box out on the front porch. The momma cat has been known to hang around there when it’s raining, so we figured she’d find them there when she was seeking shelter.
Momma wouldn’t cone to her kitties on the porch, so we brought them back to her next to the house & she nursed them & cleaned them up. That next night, I spent a little over an hour building a little Cat House. You know… Kinda like a dog house, but for cats. It’s wide & has a sloped roof with a large overhang over the doorway. The cats haven’t curled up in there yet, but I’m thinking I’ll put the kittins in there tomorrow since it’ll get REALLY cold this weekend. I’m just hoping Momma joins them in there… We’ll see.
I’ll post pics after I get back from the Men’s Retreat this weekend.

Fantastic, Sweetheart. I have faith that Momma will join her babies and all will be well. What location did you place their little house? You are even my “HERO”! I love you, Mom
I put the house up against our house, right where the baby kitties started out.
They never made any moves toward it, so I put them in there at lunch time today. It’s facing where they were & they are in an open “doorway”, so Momma will see them the next time she comes through there.
It’s supposed to get really cold the next couple of nights, so I wanted them to at least be blocked from the cold winds.
Hopefully momma will join them in the house.
I have faith all will be well.
